Seppala Kennels

Seppala Kennels has for over fifteen years been the home of the Seppala Siberian Sleddog Project, whose object is the development as a breed in its own right of the original Leonhard Seppala strain of Siberian sleddogs. Since 1997 the Seppala Siberian Sleddog has been recognised in Canada as an "evolving breed" by the Canadian Ministry of Agriculture. From 1993 until mid-2008 the kennels were located in the Yukon Territory near Lake Laberge; they are now relocated to the rolling Parkland region of central Manitoba near the Riding Mountain National Park.

Seppala Kennels continues to be the main breed development centre as SSSDs continue to be dispersed through North America, the main source of authentic SSSD stock whose pedigree lineage traces back exclusively to Leonhard Seppala dogs and Siberia import stock. There are plenty of fake SSSDs and "wannabes" around, but the real Seppala Siberian Sleddogs are still quite scarce.

Not all of the Seppala Kennels stock is shown here as yet, but the main bloodlines and a representative sampling of the dogs are now all here on Dogtec.
