What a super fun race!! I have heard nothing but good things about the Dryden, Ontario fun/sprint race and thought I might as well race since it is so close. Sure glad we went, there is no entry fee, and every finisher receives cash as well as some great prizes donated by the local businesses! Can't go wrong with that! We met the local mushing community and everyone was super welcoming and friendly! Some of the teams were competitive sprint teams and others were just recreational mushers or tour outfitters like us. It was a very well organized event and the trail was great!! Very beautiful scenery, more narrow and winding, fun little hills, some lakes and fields, great variety and well marked! My dogs loved it and were just flying! I love my new Cooper Super Stage sled! It handled like a dream on all those corners although I think I was the only racer who used a track:) Unfortunately we did have three stops where we lost some time and in a sprint race, every second counts! Two were potty stops and the 3rd was because the trail was blocked temporarily by a wad of 4 or more mushers that seemed to all be running together trying to pass but not having much luck. So I waited for a minute to let them get by each other so we could have room to pass. The winning teams time was 1:00:27 and my teams time was 1:08:23 with 23 teams competing. My team still had plenty of gas at the end (I admit I used the drag pad to hold them back a bit in the beginning, habit you know:) and were just flying down the river to the finish line!! A good time was had by all!
