Akela's Den Sled Dog Supplies & Racing Kennel was founded in April 2006. Bart De Marie, Stefaan De Marie and his wife Tanja Tabel, took over Jim & Elaine Tomkins Sled Dog Supply Business & Racing Kennel in April 2006. After gaining years of experience, we decided to take over their business and part of their racing kennel and thus "Akela's Den" was born.

Only a couple years later, our kennel became already very successful in mid and long distance racing. With many top 5 finishes including wins in the Canadian Challenge 12 dog race in 2008 and 2009, Neckbone 2008, Fort St James 200 2009 and many others.

Akela's Den Racing Kennel continues their adventure by participating in the Yukon Quest 2010 and hope to be the first Belgian mushers (also first out of Saskatchewan), located in Saskatchewan, Canada to participate and finish this 1000 mile race.
