What is Web Kennel System?
|
Web Kennel System (WKS) is a service that allows you to present your dogs and kennel on the internet.
It is like having your dogs on your own web site, except that you don't have to worry about HTML, software, hosting...
You enter the information on each dog only once and the system computes pedigrees, littermates, offsprings...
When you make changes, they take effect instantly.
You take advantage of the technology and the exposure without having to worry about the inner details.

What are the features?

- Web Kennel System provides a kennel directory where the participating kennels are listed.
(There is an option not to list a kennel in the directory).
- Each kennel provides a list of groups like Stud dogs, Dogs for sale, Leaders...
- Each group provides a list of dogs that belong to it with a link to go to that dog.
There is an option to display a thumbnail of the dog's picture for each dog in the group.
- Each dog is displayed in a form with name, sex, year of birth, weight, father, mother breeder, description/comments, picture, littermates and offsprings.
There are links to pedigrees with 2, 3, 4 or 5 generations, with or without picture.
There are also links to go to the offsprings and to the littermates.
- On the pedigrees, there are links to navigate to any of the ancestors.

How does it work?

You set up an account by signing up for a 30 days free trial.
When you create the account, you choose a user name and a password and enter the basic account information.
From then on, your kennel is listed in the kennel directory on the web.
There are 2 sites to the system:
- The display site, accessible to everybody so that they can see what you entered.
- The management site that only you can access with your user name and password. There, you can modify or add to the information you entered at any time.
You don't need any special software, just your browser, and the changes you make are reflected instantly on the display site.
The information is stored in a relational database and the pages are created dynamically each time one is requested.

How much does it cost?

From now on, Web Kennel System is free for small kennels that do not enter more than 100 dogs in the database.
If you need more, the fee is $9.95 a month for the first 500 dogs, with 10% discount for a one year subscription.
This includes the dogs listed in the groups and the ones in the pedigrees, but each dog is counted only once, even if it appears in multiple pedigrees.
The dogs that you deleted do not count in this quota.
